This larger-than-life attraction offers visitors the opportunity to climb up to the dinosaur's mouth (for a fee), as long as you don't mind the 106 steps. Be sure to take a family picture to seal up your visit when you get to the top and enjoy the panoramic view of the town.

When you return from observing and exploring the world’s largest dinosaur, let the kids run and cool off at the Rotary Spray Park, a vibrant oasis equipped with splash pads, fountains, and a water park. The Water Park is the perfect thing to do on a hot, dry, summer day. It offers parents a break, while your little explorers cool off in an array of fountains and water cannons. This park is open from May long weekend to mid-September & it’s free to use. There are outdoor washrooms, change areas, picnic tables and green space to relax in. If your kids love to play in the water, I would suggest holding extra clothes for change or swimming suits as they can get wet from the park and play.
Unveiling the Mysteries at Royal Tyrrell Museum
After that, you want to explore the renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum. Home to over 130,000 fossil specimens and collections of dinosaur skeletons, this museum boasts an impressive collection of fossils, interactive exhibits, and hands-on activities that promise an educational and thrilling experience for kids of all ages. Your kids will be awestruck by the towering T-Rex and Triceratops displays.
Now to my favourite part of Drumheller for now, the hoodoos. I saw a blog post that said that "If you visit Drumheller and fail to see the Hoodoos, did you really go to Drumheller at all?" and I cannot even agree less because the Hoodoos should definitely be on your list when visiting Drumheller and I promise you that you won't regret it. Willow Creek offers a picturesque setting for families. Take a short hike to see these natural wonders up close.
The Drumheller Hoodoos are geological wonders that have stood at the mouth of Willow Creek Coulee for thousands of years, witnessing the people and events that shaped the Red Deer River valley, and Alberta. Hoodoos take millions of years to form and stand 5 to 7 meters tall. Each hoodoo is a sandstone pillar resting on a thick base of shale that is capped by a large stone. They are actually very fragile and can erode completely if their capstone is dislodged. Also learned that the word “hoodoo” originated from the Hausa language and is a symbol of the Canadian Badlands in Alberta, Canada.
Lastly, you and your family can challenge yourself to a test of bravery at the Rosedale Star Mine Suspension Bridge. This historic bridge offers a stunning view of the Red Deer River and the badlands landscape. Located 9 km away from the town of Drumheller & constructed in 1931. This bridge was originally used by the coal workers of the Star Mine but it is now one of the most loved free things to do in Drumheller, frequented by locals and tourists alike.

Tips and Tricks to Plan ahead
- Pack snacks and water to keep you and the kids energized for a day of exploration.
- Wear comfortable shoes: You'll be doing a lot of walking and hiking!
- Capture memories of your dino-tastic adventure.
I also need to mention that we didn't do all of these in one trip. I try to break most of our adventure trips into a couple of day trips especially because we live in Calgary which is just about 1.5 hours to Drumheller on a good weather day.
